Nic Baird led the Mountie charge on day one of the grand Final with 133 in the 2nd XI.
In the highly anticipated clash in the 1sts it was Brown Hill who made a fast start, having Mt Clear 5/26. A solid recovery was led by Daniel Hopkinson (56) and Hayden Cartledge (55) to see Mt Clear to a respectable 184. The Brown Hill openers survived 8 overs and are 0/5.
In the 2nds Nic Baird entered with Mt Clear 4/44 and steered them to a highly competitive 251. Nic brought up his century with a lofted straight drive for six (pictured). He was supported in an 111 run stand by Matt Clark (45). Simon Feros made the most of the five overs to be bowled in claiming a wicket which sees East at 1/10.
In a fast paced game in the 3rds Mt Clear made 7/247cc off their 80 overs. The evergreen pair of Garry Cook (91) and Peter Tuddenham (67) made the most of their opportunities. Due to the fast over rate Mt Clear had one over to bowl. Not to be outdone by the experienced batsmen Justin Davey duly delivered an early breakthrough to have Coronet City 1/2 at stumps.
In the Division 5 game Mt Clear got the best of the early going against Elaine with 3 early wicket. Danny Joyce was the best of the bowler with 3 wickets, including both openers. Youngster Mitch Tuddenham chipped in with 2 late wickets to wrap up the innings holding Elaine to 179. Unfortunately Mt Clear’s batting line up was not able to hold up against the seasoned Elaine attack and were bowled out for 71. Steve Young offered the most resistance with 25. The Division team return on Sunday for the 2nd game of the best of 3 series.
