PROFILE:
Shane joined the Mounties in 1992 debuting in the Under 14's under coach and good friend David Peverill. He soon developed into a handy all rounder and was a vital part of the Under 14 and Under 16 premiership teams of the 1990's. Shane excels in the field and has arguably the safest hands in the club. Reading through the record books you would be forgiven to think that Warky was a wicketkeeper as he often holds more catches per season than the keeper. Many captains have been spoilt over the years with Shane in the slips corden and when a substitute fielder is required in another grade one of the first questions asked by the captain in need is "Is Warky available?"

His bowling is best described as unpredictably consistent. So much so that his teammates back in the Under 16's would take bets on when his next victim would fall according to how bad the previous ball was. Often an over of Shane's medium pacers would read wide, wicket, no ball, six, wicket, four, wicket. His batting has really improved over the last few seasons regularly holding down the opening or number 3 batting positions in the 2nds and 3rds. Shane has made some handy and fast scoring contributions at the top of the order but is still yet to record a century after tragically being caught on the fence for 96 vs North Ballarat in the 2nd XI two seasons ago.

Shane played his first, and possibly only First XI game in season 1998/1999 making 6 runs and returning the bowling figures of 0/25 from 5 overs. Shane's career highlight came in the Third XI Grand Final in 2000/2001 when he scored 61 runs and shared a in match winning 9th wicket partnership with Brendan McGavin of 139 runs that killed off any chance of an unlikely comeback by Brown Hill, a partnership that is still a record for the 3rd XI. Sadly, we don't see as much of Warky as we would like these days due to increased work and family commitments but if he is not playing cricket for the Mounties, you are sure to find him where the fish are biting.
