PROFILE:
Tigs has bullied the bowling attacks of the Ballarat Cricket Association lower grades for the best part of 20 years now and describes his approach to batting in the words of Ted Whitten……….”Hit the boundary” The reluctant runner had his best season on the field in 1995/1996 when he finished the season with a club record 1150 runs at a “Bradmanesque” average of 127.78 from 12 innings.

Unfortunately his bowling career is not in the same league as the following tale as told by Tigs will tell
“Bowling file is marked "never to bowl again". If I bowled then I would probably have to be replaced for the over to be completed, after the 15th ball fails to hit the pitch!! ....(Spooka can tell you the story about the day the Tigchelaar Brothers took the new ball)

Despite my inability to bowl, I feel sorry for the two batsman that I have got out. My greatest bowling achievement was at the home of lower order cricket in the late 80's, Sparrow Reserve. I think it was the second last time that I bowled in a game. The opening batsman for Nth Ballarat in the fourths was stepping to square leg and belting everything to all corners of The Sparrow. Balls were being retrieved from the trotting track regularly. He had raced to the 90's inside about the first hour of play and in the spirit of all great bowlers when the batsman is well on top, I thought I'd give him a spray, despite the fact that most of his runs had come from the express bowling that I was throwing up. I told him that if he stepped to square leg again that I would take his head off (and I've cleaned that up). After much laughter..... mainly from my team mates...... I dropped it in short down the leg side and sure enough he stepped in to it. Got him!! Down he went like a prized fighter. Retired hurt for 90 something. He went off to hospital for some stitches in the mouth, but in true bowling style, I proceeded to tell him how weak he was not staying to make 100 (cleaned that up again)......., from memory I made about 80 in the match which only left me about 80 short of my bowling figures”!!!

His contribution to the club off the field should not be overlooked also serving as club Secretary for the last 3 seasons, running the Milo cricket of a Sunday morning and taking on the role of Under 14 coach last season. His thankless efforts were rewarded when he won the clubs most important award in 2008/2009, the Best Clubman Award.
